Kina Mucasaya Indongo, Namibia
MA in International Development, Maynooth University
My name is Kina and I am from Namibia. I am a communications professional who helps development-driven programs grow through data-informed storytelling. With a background in Civic Engagement and Advocacy, I specialise in turning real stories and insights into campaigns that drive change.

I would strongly encourage Namibians to apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme. Beyond the academic enrichment, the Fellowship offers an invaluable opportunity to learn from peers across the globe and to experience the vibrant culture and generosity that Ireland is known for.

Before coming to Ireland to take up my place on the Ireland Fellows Programme, I served as the Communications Manager for Co-Creation Hub Africa's Namibian branch. In that role, I worked to promote the visibility of African tech innovation and entrepreneurship through community-based communication strategies that connected stakeholders across the continent.
Namibia, like many African countries, faces the challenge of rising youth unemployment. I chose to study the MA in International Development at Maynooth University to connect my passion for youth advocacy and civic engagement with practical solutions for employment, education, and the future of work. To make a real impact, I wanted to understand the global drivers of development and learn how to apply those lessons meaningfully back home.
While I had always been aware of global trends and their impact on everyday Namibians, the course has given me the theoretical foundation to critically link these dynamics to policy. I now feel more equipped to analyse and contribute meaningfully to policy discussion in the development space. Ultimately, I hope to refine my ability to contribute to Namibia's development agenda upon completion of my Fellowship. My previous work focused largely on communicating development issues; however, I am now eager to engage more deeply in shaping the policies that guide that work.
The experience of studying in Ireland has been truly transformative both academically and personally. Beyond the classroom, one of the greatest benefits has been connecting with other Fellows whose diverse experiences and perspectives have expanded my own understanding of development. It has been both a privilege and a source of daily inspiration.
The biggest difference I found between my home country and Ireland is the sunlight! Initially, I did not anticipate quite so much rain! Namibia enjoys some of the highest levels of solar radiation in Southern Africa, so experiencing entire days with little or no direct sunlight has been quite an adjustment. However, the landscape in Ireland is breathtaking, and the warmth and generosity of the Irish people have made the transition remarkably smooth.
My favourite part of the Ireland Fellows Programme so far is learning about Ireland's proud history of standing up for global justice, which has been deeply inspiring, especially its role in opposing apartheid in South Africa. Given Namibia's shared history with South Africa, that legacy holds special meaning for me.
I would strongly encourage Namibians to apply for the Ireland Fellows Programme. Beyond the academic enrichment, the Fellowship offers an invaluable opportunity to learn from peers across the globe and to experience the vibrant culture and generosity that Ireland is known for. My advice is to choose a field you are genuinely passionate about. While it is important to be practical and align your studies with your professional goals, your chosen field should also excite your curiosity and sustain your motivation. The Fellowship is a wonderful opportunity to expand your potential in meaningful directions. Therefore, do take the time to choose a path that genuinely resonates with your interests and long-term vision.
